Tossed Salad & Scrambled Eggs...

~A little bit of everything today. My favorite son is on the road again. I got an email this morning telling me he is off to Vancouver for a few days and then on to Los Angeles. Hmmm... it's nice to be young eh : ) Hey Bud, have a great time. Take easy! Send your Dad a postcard.
~Interesting news from Tracy at the Shania Twain Centre ... she has managed to convert the mini-theatre there into a cool replica of the main beverage room at the old Maple Leaf Hotel in Timmins. Tracy has been working on it in secret for months! Tracy got a piece of the bar, some of the tables and chairs and even the door to the Ladies Room! Shania played at the Maple Leaf as her star was rising. Just so you know, the "Leaf" was a popular country music tavern in Timmins. It's biggest claim to fame is that it's where Stompin' Tom Connors began his singing career... he was unemployed and he agreed to sing for beer. This same bar was frequented by another country singer who claimed it was her all round favorite place to play because the fans were so much fun. Her name is Michelle Wright.
~The Timmins sportsman's show is on this coming weekend. It's at The Mac. Drop by the James Bay Frontier booth and say hi. We'll be in the curling rink.

First Robin

The first robin is usually the first sign of spring ... when the snow is melting fast and the days are warm. I saw this robin today in the forest at Kap Kig Iwan provincial park near Englehart.

Lucky Dude... camping in the Rockies!!!

My son is a cool guy... or so he thinks. He knows how much I like camping and being outdoors. This week he emailed a pile of pictures from his latest camping trip. Just him and a few buddies at a place called Fortress Lake, north of Banff, Alberta. Camping in the Rockies. Lucky dog! Yeah, that's him on the right... the one with the shit-eating grin! LOL

Getting Lazy!

Okay, this is a habit I blame my daughter for : ) I went to Tims today to pick up a large coffee. I came home and put it in the fridge. When I get up tomorrow morning, I won't have to make a fresh pot of coffee... will just throw the Tims in the microwave. Heat it up and away we go. That's getting lazy eh. Oh well, I have so much to do in the morning... got to pack up the truck for a trip to camp to spend Easter with Jen and her family. I might even have time to stop and grab another coffee. See ya!

Getting Sirius.

I got myself a special birthday gift. Sirius Radio. It's the new satellite radio system that lets you listen from anywhere on the planet, anytime and there are no commercials. The system is kinda cool. It's about the size of a Sony Walkman. You plug it in to your car lighter, tune the FM Radio to 88.8 and your car stereo becomes the satellite radio! All you do then is tune in whatever you like - jazz, country, sports, comedy. I love it. Woohoo... can't wait to hit the highways of Northern Ontario again. I can even use it with the FM radio in the house. Of course, there is a monthly fee... but since I don't watch cable TV, I figure 49-cents a day is a bargain.

Great Movie

Every now and then Hollywood comes through with something worthwhile. More often than not, they produce boring, predictable films. And you can't rely on the Oscars anymore to tell you what's good. Remember American Beauty being named Best Picture! What a load of crap that was. Oh well. I saw a fabulous film last night and I am pleased to recommend it. Memoirs of a Geisha will become a classic. See it. It doesn't surprise me at all that genius producer Steven Spielberg has done magic again.

You remembered! Thanks.

Back home in Timmins this evening after being on the road again. Wow, the highways were sure bad today. And all this snow up here too. Thanks for the nice emails and phones messages. My little brother even sang Happy Birthday on voice mail! Yup, had another birthday. I almost forgot. Hmmm... I used to think being over 50 was old. I sure don't think that way now. I am too busy to be old!
