It was a good newsroom discussion when we talked about how people will react to the Ontario government decision to slow down the idea of "reopening" the province. Dr. Kieran Moore, the chief medical officer, wants more people to be vaccinated.
So I suggested that people should read The Diary of Anne Frank. She is the teenaged girl who lived in Holland during the Second World War. It was the time of the Nazi occupation and Anne and her family had to hide from the Germans. Compared to her, we are doing just fine.
Anne Frank and her family lived in a three-room attic for more than two years, before they were discovered. The family members were sent off to death camps. Anne did not survive. She was murdered by the Nazis. But her diary did and it became published and famous around the world.
Her story was one of hope and wonder that existed in the mind of a teenage girl. People will do well to read Anne's story just to appreciate their place in the world.
