Red Friday

Just a reminder that there is a growing movement of Canadians who choose to wear red clothing on Fridays. It’s a quiet and easy way to show support for our armed forces overseas. If you think it’s a good idea, tell a friend. You can learn more about Red Fridays at this website.

Great news from Tim's

If you love your coffee and drive a lot, there is great news from Tim Horton's. Their website has a store locator page that let's you pick a town and get a map showing where to find your coffee. That may not seem important if you don't travel a lot. But when you're on the road there's nothing more comforting in a strange town than a hot tea biscuit with a medium steeped tea, two milk, no sugar! By the way, you can now buy Tim's in Erie, PA, Detroit, MI, Buffalo, NY and Columbus, Ohio.

Sudbury Saturday Night

I was happy to spend the weekend with my daughter Jennifer and her family. It was nice to hang out in Sudbury and meet lots of nice people again. And yes, we all had a Sudbury Saturday Night. It was a good party. Some people felt it more than others the next morning. Jenn wanted a nice photo of herself and Scott and so here it is. Jenn and Scott are making it official and getting married next month.

Ancient Gillis

I was sent an interesting pattern today. This is a tartan. It’s called the Ancient Gillis Tartan. Hmmm… does that mean it’s for old Gillis people? : ) Well I'm sure there's enough of those around. It’s a nice looking pattern in any case.

Mac in the mists...

The weather was strange today. It was warm, but rainy. And at lunchtime the McIntyre gold mine headframe was almost lost in the mists. The headframe is roughly 14 storeys high, so its hard to figure whether it was high fog or low clouds. It was interesting to see.

Got any extra money?

Good question eh. Well who knows if you have extra money lying around. Well, the Bank of Canada knows! And it has a website where you can enter your name and see if you have ever forgotten about money sitting in an old bank account. Thousands of people have. Sometimes its only ten or twenty dollars. In some cases, it's hundreds of dollars. Check out the website. http://ucbswww.bank-banque-canada.ca/scripts/search_english.cfm

Cool nights... Furnace came on!

Well the nights are indeed getting cooler. I know it was cold last night because my furnace kicked on at about 7:30 this morning. It's set for 15 degrees Celcius in the morning. ... It's the first time since May. Hmmm... I guess that's a sure sign eh. Snowmobile season is on the way.

Nice weekend with the happy couple...

Enjoyed a great weekend with Jenn and her family at the camp near Westree. Jenn and Scott are excellent anglers. They caught their limit of pickerel on Saturday. By the way, Jenn also caught the largest fish that day. So we had a fabulous feed of fish on Sunday. (oh by the way, click on the pic of Zena the Pickerel Princess and check out her ring!)

I was pleased to bring some fillets home Monday night and I couldn't help my self. I cooked 'em up right away to have another dinner of fresh fish, fried potatoes with onions and cream corn. Woohoo, life doesn't get too much better

Van Morrison in concert ... crap!

I hate to believe it ... but I have to trust what my favorite sister says. If you love Van Morrison's music, don't go to see the man in concert. She caught his concert at the Air Canada Centre and says it was the worst! And she paid for premium seats on the floor, near the stage. It seems music critics agree the concert was less than stellar. Even Toronto's big suck-up paper, The Toronto Star, was not pleased. Oh well. I am glad I didn't go. I love the music, but would hate to go to a lousy concert. I guess I will just skip concerts and enjoy my CDs.
