I should have known. I enjoyed watching a good movie last night. True Grit. It was the newer release, the one with Jeff Bridges and Matt Damon. A real good shoot-em up western. As the credits rolled, I was pleased to see the name of producer Steven Spielberg. I should have known. He has that golden touch. Whatever he works on is usually a great movie.
Speaking of good things to see, Jennifer and Scott are off to the Air Canada Centre next week to see the Toronto Maple Leafs play. Hmmm … I wonder if Spielberg knows anything about hockey?

Happy day Deb!
I think I mentioned earlier how I feel about my new coffee mug. It’s the best. And it’s not the Tim Hortons thing at all… it’s just that it’s a nice big ceramic mug and it has a rounded lip on it, just like the paper cups do. For some reason I enjoy drinking from it more than any other. So I have thrown out three other mugs. Like most people I have several coffee mugs in the cupboard, but since I am using just one, I figure why bother with others. Oh, I kept several mugs. You know, the ones that friend’s give you that have your name on them or some logo from a special place. They all still in the cupboard. I am confident that at some point they will become pencil holders. Today will be a good day. We’re some expecting some nice cold temps and some sunshine. It is still dark now, but I am planning some snow shoeing.
I mentioned that to Debra last night. I called to chat and wish her happy birthday…. Shhhhh! she said, since she doesn’t want anyone to know she has reached a “milestone” birthday. So you won’t hear it from me that she’s not 29 anymore.
At this stage of life, it’s always nice to enjoy little treats. I always get cravings for sweet things, but I don’t always make the required effort for something special. I had a couple of pears sitting on my breadbox yesterday, so I went online in search of a good recipe for poached pears. I was going to do the traditional red wine poaching, but I found another recipe for sherry and whiskey poaching. Well, lah dee dah! I was pleased with the result, except that I didn’t have any whipped cream to top it off. Regardless, the pears were sweet and the nectar of sherry, whiskey, brown sugar and spices was amazing. I ate two halves last night. The other two halves are still in the fridge. Maybe I will go out and pick up some whipped cream. Yes, it’s going to be a nice day.

Good things happening...
About time I got in here for a few words. The first week of 2011 has been good and busy. I was so pleased to celebrate the New Year with company in my home. Victoria, Tyler and Nathan were my guests. We all had a good time by first going out to dinner and then back home for an evening of Wii. I actually went out and bought the newest console so now I am such a gamer. It’s fun and whew, some days it’s a good workout too. The kids celebrated the actual new year by rushing onto the balcony and shouting out a countdown and then blowing their little paper horns. It was so funny to watch them. Those kids make me laugh. What a joy they are.
My treat last night was to sign up with Netflix. That’s the movie and TV service that suits my needs perfectly. I didn’t want to go with Cable TV. I don’t have time to sit down and watch scheduled TV. Netflix lets me pick and choose movies or TV shows that I like and then watch them whenever I feel like it. It comes through on my Wii, takes about 30 seconds to download and it is excellent quality.
One good part is that the first month is free so I get to see if I really like it. After that it’s only $7.99 a month and there is no term contract… so I can quit whenever. I just hope I don’t become a TV junkie! Oh, and there are about 100,000 movies and TV shows to choose from. I will keep you posted.
Right now I am enjoying one of my Christmas gifts. I got a Tim Horton’s ceramic coffee mug that is so perfect I don’t use any of my other mugs. I keep using it and washing it and using it again.
